A brief introduction to the Indoors-Outdoors 2018 trend
Undoubtedly one of the most fascinating interiors trends to have emerged in 2018 is the one that’s tentatively being termed ‘Indoors-Outdoors’. If you’re unfamiliar with it, allow us to fill you in!
What is the Indoors-Outdoors trend?
Essentially, it’s the art of using a single type of tile to create a seamless transition between interiors and exteriors, blurring the boundaries between the two. The final result gives the impression of an expansive, continuous living space that makes a room feel more connected with the outdoors, and the garden more like part of the house.
As you can imagine, the results are especially beautiful in summer weather, or if you take great pride in your garden. The Indoors-Outdoors trend is also seeing particular popularity in our local area of the Ribble Valley, which is acclaimed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK. That’s not to say it doesn’t work equally well in more urban environments either! In fact, the versatility of this trend is a huge part of its key appeal.
How can you achieve it for your own home?
High-quality Italian porcelain tiles like ours are ideal for this sort of application. They strike the perfect balance between being suitably hardwearing and easy to maintain, and what’s more you’ll have no shortage of choice from the number of stunning ranges in our Collections. Grey shades like slate are a popular favourite of many designers, as they provide an intriguing colour contrast against lush green lawns. We find that wood-effect is often another popular option, likely due to its ability to give your home a rustic and cosy feel, while lending an appealing natural look to your garden, too. In many ways, it’s perfect for bridging the gap!
You can keep it simple or get as creative as you please in your design. You might want to keep the same type of tile all the way through, or choose several closely-related types of tile to create a gradual shading effect as you transition over the boundary of your interior and exterior. Whatever you choose, don’t forget that our experienced staff here at Roman Stone are always at your service to help you achieve the look you want!
